I have reviewed and read reviews for a lot of sites this semester and have been paying more attention to detail than ever before. There are too many sites for me to go back and compare to so I’ve been writing down general parts and ideas of certain websites that I like and don’t like. Also being sure to note an idea that I like that may have not been done properly. What works for me is a good artistic design but without sacrificing usability. I want my site to be easy to use above all else. My target audience will care if I have a good design or not so it will be important to find a balance. My home page will start out as my blog with links to other people’s works, comments and forum pages. But as the years go by and I (hopefully) expand my name I could see the home page being divided up between my blog and interviews with people in my field and maybe links to current events that relate to my audience. I don’t know too much about screen resolution and how colors are specified. I know that like font they change from computer to computer and can be changed on individual computers but don’t know too much about defaults and what the basic rules are.
When it comes to WordPress this is my first semester using it so I’m kind of in the dark. I’ve never spent much time moving anything other than images onto websites so again I don’t know much about content management systems but I’m learning. I have been looking over some WordPress themes that look like what I’m thinking up hoping to find a perfect match for my site and what I want to convey to my audience when they visit.
