  • Gradebook Declaration: I attended the D/FW WordPress Meetup event on January 30. I have published a blog post on my course blog that is between 200 and 300 words long about my experience at the event. I have spellchecked and proofread the post.

I have participated in the D/FW WordPress Meetup and strongly recommend it. I mentioned the January 30 meetup in class: Dallas’ most famous, colorful, and high-profile blogger, John P. gave a talk on how to “Make More Money with WordPress, Social Media and Analytics.” If you attended the event, you can get four points of extra credit by writing about your experience. Here are some questions to get you started:

  • If this was your first event of this kind, what were your impressions? Were you surprised to see this many people together talking about running web sites? What kind of people attended, their backgrounds and interests?
  • What did the presentation cover? Did you learn anything you can apply to your final project for the course?
  • What did you think of Tony Cecala, John P., or anyone else that spoke in front of the group? How would you describe that person’s brand? Did you learn anything from watching them that you can apply to your personal brand?
  • What other interesting people did you meet at the event who did not speak in front of the group? Did you hear anyone’s “elevator pitch”? Did anyone give you a business card? If so, what were your impressions of the people and their branding? Did anyone interest you enough to check out their web site, follow them on Twitter, etc. after the event?
  • Do you think your fellow classmates would find an event like this valuable? Why or why not?
