Fingerprints, of course.

Well, what can I say? My name is Eric Finger.

After trying out Fingerprints.com, I came to a page on fingerprint reading hardware, hah. I will very likely try to register Fingerprints.net since it is not taken. I originally picked that name for my blog on a whim the first day of class, but there is actually a story behind it. Many years ago my late grandfather, Herbert Finger, started a family correspondence called Fingerprints with anyone he could find with the last name Finger. The family members stretched out to many different parts of the United States and Europe, including Germany, the place of the name’s origin. The most obvious reason why I’d like to choose this domain is that it is catchy and easy to remember, and references myself pretty directly. If there is anything I’ve learned about my at times tortured name is that people tend to notice it in a list of others and remember it. Also, going back to the story of the family correspondence, I like the name as a metaphor for the grand scale of communication now possible with the internet; that people from all edges of the world may easy access my site. I don’t yet have a clear idea of what my website will be, but if that does not change, and even if it does, Fingerprints.net could easily become my online portfolio for my projects. As much as I love tech and the graphic arts, most of my education has been in the Fine Arts, and i’d like to have a place to showcase my drawings. So in this regard, “Fingerprints” will be my imprint on the world… Or the web, at least.

    Eric,
Interesting story behind the very catchy domain name you have chosen. I tried to search everyone with my last name but the list kept on going that I lost track, but anyways, I like the idea that you want to leave your “imprint” on the web by choosing “figernprints.net.” Like you mention, it is easy to remember and your projects WILL become your finger print on the web and that will bring you success.
